Supporting Texts: Joshua 1:1–9, Psalm 124:1–8, Galatians 3:29
Focus: Celebrating God’s faithfulness over 20 years and preparing for a new season through thanksgiving, obedience and covenant commitment
This 20th anniversary message celebrates the mercy, grace and faithfulness of God over RCCG Overcomers House Gloucester.
Looking back over two decades, the sermon declares that the church has not been sustained by human ability, strength or qualification, but by the unfailing compassion of God.
The message also looks ahead, describing the anniversary as a season of crossover, covenant renewal, thanksgiving and fresh vision for the next phase of the church.
The sermon opens with thanksgiving to God for the journey of 20 years. The preacher acknowledges that such a journey is not ordinary and should never be taken for granted.
God is praised as the One who has kept the church, healed His people, given peace in confusing seasons and shown Himself strong in battles. The message reflects the assurance of Psalm 121:4, which declares that the Keeper of Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps.
The preacher gives thanks to God as healer, peace and banner, echoing biblical revelations of God as the One who heals, gives peace and fights for His people. These truths are seen in passages such as Exodus 15:26, Judges 6:24 and Exodus 17:15.
The anniversary is described not merely as a church event, but as a season of divine encounter. The prayer is that everyone attending physically or virtually will receive a blessing and experience God personally throughout the programme.
The message then presents the anniversary as a season of crossover. Across Scripture, moments of crossing over often represent transition, obedience and movement into a new phase of God’s purpose.
The preacher declares that when Jesus crosses over, He crosses over with compassion. This reflects the heart of Christ seen in Matthew 14:14, where Jesus was moved with compassion and healed the sick.
RCCG Overcomers House Gloucester is described as a church built and sustained by the grace and mercy of God. No person is presented as the source of the church’s testimony. The message makes it clear that the church has come this far because God has shown mercy, supplied grace and remained faithful.
The preacher reminds the congregation that God does not always call the qualified; He qualifies those He calls. This keeps the church humble and ensures that the glory returns to God alone.
The sermon explains that when God’s grace is truly at work, success cannot be attributed to human qualification, material advantage or personal ability. The only honest conclusion becomes: “It is by the grace of God.”
The central declaration comes from Lamentations 3:22–23:
“Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”
The sermon applies this truth to the church, families, careers, marriages and every area of life. If we are still standing, it is because the mercy of God has not failed.
God’s faithfulness is then presented as the reason believers can trust Him for the future. God is not a man that He should lie, and He does not repent concerning His promises, as declared in Numbers 23:19.
The message gives thanks for the difficult situations God has handled within the church and declares that testimonies are still coming. Where people thought the road was closed, God is able to show up and prove Himself faithful.
The sermon also highlights biblical declarations of God’s faithfulness, including Psalm 36:5, Psalm 71:22 and Psalm 89:1. These passages remind believers that God’s faithfulness reaches to the heavens and should be declared from generation to generation.
The message then turns to Joshua 1:1–9, where God commanded Joshua to lead Israel forward after the death of Moses. God kept His promise to Moses and continued His purpose through Joshua.
This becomes a prophetic picture for the church. Twenty years have passed, but God remains the covenant keeper. He has been with the church and will not leave or forsake His people.
The sermon notes that God asked Israel to cross the Jordan at a difficult time, when the river was overflowing. Joshua 3:15–17 shows that God is able to make a way even when the obstacle is at its fullest.
This teaches that God does not need circumstances to become convenient before He delivers His people. Even at the peak of a problem, God can bring deliverance.
The preacher then explains how believers can continue to experience God’s faithfulness.
First, they must belong to Christ. Galatians 3:29 teaches that those who are Christ’s are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise.
Second, believers must walk in obedience. God’s faithfulness is not an excuse for careless living. Obedience keeps believers aligned with the covenant and purpose of God. The sermon also reminds believers that God loves justice and hates robbery and iniquity, as stated in Isaiah 61:8.
Third, believers must meditate on the Word of God. Joshua 1:8 teaches that the Book of the Law should not depart from the mouth, but should be meditated upon day and night. This leads to good success.
Fourth, believers must cultivate thanksgiving. Psalm 100:4 calls God’s people to enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise.
Thanksgiving is not only for what God has already done. It is also an expression of faith for what He is doing and what He will yet do.
The sermon then reflects on Psalm 124:1–8: “If it had not been the Lord who was on our side…”
This becomes a testimony over RCCG Overcomers House Gloucester. If the Lord had not been on the side of the church, the story could have been different. But God preserved His work through battles, opposition and hidden challenges.
The preacher encourages ministers, pastors and believers to maintain a pure heart. In ministry and in life, integrity matters. A person who walks sincerely before God can trust Him for preservation.
The testimony shared in the sermon points to God’s preservation over the church through spiritual opposition. Rather than glorifying the opposition, the message gives glory to God, who preserved His work and proved that no weapon formed against His people can prosper, as declared in Isaiah 54:17.
The sermon also recalls a covenant moment from the early years of the church, when the Lord assured the preacher that He would be with the church as long as His covenant was kept.
This covenant is described as a covenant of peace, life, prosperity and lifting. The preacher declares that anyone connected to the commission, directly or indirectly, will experience divine visitation and transformation.
The message concludes with congratulations and thanksgiving to God for the 20th anniversary. Appreciation is given to the pastor’s wife, ministers, workers, members, pioneer members and everyone who has stood with the church.
Finally, the church is reminded that a new ground is ahead. Twenty years have passed, but there is still fresh vision, fresh responsibility and a new phase of God’s assignment to pursue.
The journey of 20 years is not something to take lightly. It is a testimony of God’s mercy, protection and faithfulness.
God has kept the church, watched over His people, healed, given peace and fought battles. The testimony is that the church has not been standing by human strength, but by divine help.
The opening prayer gives thanks to God as healer, peace and banner.
This reminds believers that God’s faithfulness is not abstract. He shows Himself in real situations as the One who heals, comforts, defends and gives victory.
A church anniversary should be more than celebration, food, music or gathering.
It should become a season where people encounter God, receive blessing and reflect on His goodness with gratitude.
Crossover represents movement into a new phase of God’s purpose.
The sermon declares that when Jesus crosses over, He crosses over with compassion. God is able to show mercy and compassion to His people as they enter a new season.
RCCG Overcomers House Gloucester has not stood for 20 years because of human perfection, strength or wisdom.
The foundation of the testimony is the grace and mercy of God. Lamentations 3:22–23 reminds us that we are not consumed because His compassions fail not.
God does not always choose people because they appear naturally qualified.
He calls those who are available, humble and dependent on Him, then He equips them for the assignment. This keeps the glory where it belongs: with God.
When God’s grace is at work, people may not be able to explain how the result came.
The answer becomes simple: it was by the grace of God. This kind of grace removes unnecessary struggle and makes God’s hand visible.
The sermon’s central declaration is that God has been faithful.
His mercies are new every morning, His compassions do not fail and His faithfulness remains constant through every season.
The sermon declares that in this anniversary season, God will meet His people at the point of their need.
This is a reminder that God’s faithfulness is personal. He does not only preserve the church as a whole; He also visits individuals and families.
God is faithful because He keeps what He has spoken.
He is not a man that He should lie, as declared in Numbers 23:19. What He promises, He is able to perform.
The sermon declares that even when people are written off or situations appear closed, God can still show up.
A testimony that only God can produce is possible when His faithfulness intervenes.
The Psalms repeatedly speak of God’s faithfulness.
Psalm 89:1 declares that God’s faithfulness should be made known to all generations. A 20th anniversary is therefore an opportunity to testify publicly of what God has done.
In Joshua 1:1–9, God commanded Joshua to lead Israel forward after the death of Moses.
This shows that God’s purpose continues even after seasons change. The same God who helped in the past remains faithful in the next phase.
Israel had to cross the Jordan when it was full.
This teaches that God does not need circumstances to look convenient before He delivers. Even when the problem appears at its highest point, God can still bring His people through.
To continue experiencing God’s faithfulness, we must belong to Christ.
Galatians 3:29 teaches that those who are Christ’s are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise.
God’s faithfulness should not lead to careless living.
Believers must obey God, reject iniquity and walk in a way that honours His covenant. Obedience positions us to enjoy the promises of God.
Joshua 1:8 teaches that God’s Word should remain in our mouths and hearts.
A new season requires renewed commitment to Scripture, prayer and obedience.
Thanksgiving is not only a reaction to what God has done. It is also an expression of faith for what He is doing and what He will yet do.
Psalm 100:4 calls believers to enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise.
Psalm 124:1–8 gives language to the church’s testimony.
If the Lord had not been on our side, the story could have been different. But God defended, preserved and sustained His work.
The sermon encourages ministers and believers to walk with a sincere heart.
Hypocrisy weakens spiritual confidence, but integrity gives room for God to defend His people.
The testimony shared in the sermon shows that the church faced opposition, but God preserved His work.
The emphasis is not on the opposition, but on the God who kept the church standing.
The preacher recalls a covenant moment from the early years of the church, when God assured him that He would remain with the church as long as the covenant was kept.
This covenant is declared as a covenant of peace, life, prosperity and lifting.
Twenty years have passed, but the work is not finished.
The church is entering a new phase with fresh vision, fresh responsibility and new ground to cover.

Lord, give RCCG Overcomers House Gloucester new ground, new vision and fresh strength for the next phase.
May the Lord who has kept RCCG Overcomers House Gloucester for 20 years continue to keep, guide and preserve this assembly.
May His mercy never depart from us, and may His compassion remain new every morning. The God who has been faithful in the past will remain faithful in the years ahead.
As we cross into a new season, may the Lord show us compassion, fulfil His promises and establish His covenant of peace, life, prosperity and lifting.
Every opposition against the work of God will fail. Every Jordan before us will open. Every family connected to this commission will experience divine visitation and transformation.
The next phase shall be greater than the former. The church will not be weary, the workers will not be tired, the ministers will not faint, and every member will continue to stand by the grace of God.
RCCG Overcomers House Gloucester will cover new ground, receive fresh vision and fulfil the purpose of God for this new season.
Great is Thy faithfulness, O Lord, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
