Sermon Key Moments

Sermon Summary

The sermon opens with worship and thanksgiving to God for 20 years of faithfulness, mercy and steadfastness. The preacher acknowledges that the journey of RCCG Overcomers House Gloucester has been sustained by God alone.

The opening prayer asks God to speak to His people, bless everyone connected to the celebration and ensure that no one returns empty-handed. The preacher also declares that God will continue to build His church and that the gates of hell will not prevail, echoing the promise of Jesus in Matthew 16:18.

The message celebrates the joy of a spiritual father and son marking significant anniversaries in the same season. Drawing from 1 Chronicles 29:22–23, where Solomon was anointed king while David was still alive, the sermon presents this shared celebration as a testimony that God can honour generations together.

The preacher then declares that the best is yet to come. The journey of the past 20 years is not the end of God’s work, but a platform for greater things ahead.

The message also teaches that the grace a person honours and values can influence their life. Those who walk with great examples of faith, service and spiritual leadership should not remain small in vision or impact.

The central Bible text is Lamentations 3:22–23, which declares that through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed because His compassions do not fail. They are new every morning, and great is His faithfulness.

The sermon explains that God’s faithfulness is rooted in His character. For God to contradict His promises would be to contradict His own nature. The promises of God are “Yes” and “Amen” in Christ, as stated in 2 Corinthians 1:20.

God’s faithfulness is also independent of human weakness. 2 Timothy 2:13 teaches that even if we are faithless, He remains faithful because He cannot deny Himself.

This faithfulness should motivate believers to remain faithful in their own walk with God. Hebrews 10:23 calls believers to hold fast the confession of hope without wavering because He who promised is faithful.

The sermon also connects God’s faithfulness to forgiveness. 1 John 1:9 declares that if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Because God forgives, believers must also be thoughtful about forgiving others.

The preacher then begins to explain why God’s faithfulness is great.

First, God’s great faithfulness can bring divine visitation. In Genesis 18:9–15, God visited Abraham and Sarah, and a long-standing promise moved closer to fulfilment. What had been a promise became a decree with a divine timetable.

Abraham had carried the promise for many years, but a day came when divine visitation changed the language from waiting to fulfilment. The sermon declares that every present situation will end in praise.

Sarah laughed when she heard the promise, yet God turned that laughter into testimony. The message declares that what will restore laughter to God’s people is coming in this season.

The sermon also teaches that God can solve age-long problems. Referencing 2 Kings 3:17–18, the preacher reminds believers that God can fill valleys with water without visible wind or rain. In other words, God does not need normal channels to produce supernatural supply.

Second, God’s great faithfulness produces testimony. The sermon turns to Hannah in 1 Samuel 1:9–20. Hannah had been mocked, provoked and written off because of barrenness, but she refused to give up.

Through prayer, Hannah brought her matter before God, and heaven moved on her behalf. Her barrenness ended, and Samuel became her testimony.

The message encourages believers not to accept the verdict of people who have written them off. Through prayer, faith and persistence, they can “write themselves back” into the story.

The preacher also draws from Micah 7:8: “Do not rejoice over me, my enemy; when I fall, I will arise.” Every fall, delay and disappointment can become the place from which God raises His people again.

The message declares that those waiting for their own “Samuel” — whether in marriage, health, business, family or another area — should receive their testimony and return to give glory to God.

Isaiah 51:11 is used to declare that the redeemed of the Lord shall return with singing and everlasting joy. Sorrow and mourning will flee away.

Third, God’s great faithfulness turns little into many. The sermon references Luke 12:32, where Jesus says, “Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.”

The preacher recalls the early days of the parish, when the first Sunday after inauguration had only a few people present. Yet by God’s mercy and faithfulness, the church has grown to the point where the space can no longer contain what God is doing.

This becomes a testimony that small beginnings should not be despised. God can turn little into many, weakness into strength and humble beginnings into visible fruitfulness.

The message echoes Job 8:7: “Though your beginning was small, yet your latter end would increase abundantly.”

The sermon concludes by declaring that the faithfulness and character of God provide the foundation for understanding His dealings with His people. God remains faithful, and His unchanging nature makes Him reliable.

Just as Jesus multiplied five loaves and two fish to feed thousands, God can multiply what is in a person’s hand. The preacher declares that the little in the hands of God’s people will become many.

The message ends with an invitation from Matthew 11:28: “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

The congregation is invited to ask God for a special 20th anniversary testimony and to surrender or rededicate their lives to Christ.

Hebrews 10:23 reminds us that the One who promised is faithful.
