Sermon Key Moments

Sermon Summary

The sermon begins with worship, including a translated song of praise to the Father and the declaration that God is too faithful to fail or disappoint His people.

The preacher then gives thanks to God for the 20th anniversary celebration of RCCG Overcomers House Gloucester. God is praised for beginning the journey, sustaining the church and continuing with the assembly as its Ebenezer.

The prayer acknowledges all who have been part of the journey, including ministers, musicians, choir members, pastors and the church family. Special appreciation is given to the set pastors for faithfully shepherding the flock of Christ in Gloucester for 20 years.

The theme of the message is Great Is Thy Faithfulness, but the sermon focuses particularly on the truth that God is too faithful to fail.

The main Bible text is 2 Thessalonians 3:3:

“But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one.”

The preacher explains that when believers look back and count their blessings, they must recognise that God has been faithful, ever faithful and ever sure. The fact that we have survived battles, storms, sickness, danger, attacks and difficult seasons is evidence of God’s faithfulness.

Revelation 19:11 describes Christ as Faithful and True. This means that faithfulness is not merely something God does; it is part of who He is.

The sermon teaches that God’s faithfulness establishes His people and guards them from the evil one. Human beings may fail, circumstances may change and time may appear to forget a person, but God remains faithful because He cannot deny Himself.

God’s faithfulness is also described as a shield against the attacks of the enemy. 1 Corinthians 10:13 teaches that God will not allow His people to be tempted beyond what they can bear, but will provide a way of escape.

The preacher uses the example of salt to explain faithful usefulness. Salt may not look like other ingredients or produce the same aroma, yet without it, food loses taste. A little salt can make a great difference.

This reflects the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:13, where believers are called the salt of the earth.

However, salt can lose its usefulness when it is mixed with the wrong things. The sermon therefore warns against corrupt associations, drawing from 1 Corinthians 15:33, which says that evil company corrupts good habits.

The message then encourages believers to endure trials. God sees, hears, understands and feels the pain of His people. Because Jesus came in human flesh, He understands human weakness, suffering and pressure.

Believers are therefore encouraged to continue doing good, continue walking with God, continue believing, forgive others and maintain a clear conscience.

The sermon also reminds the church that God is faithful to complete what He has begun. 1 Thessalonians 5:24 declares, “He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.”

The preacher then asks a searching question: Have you also been faithful to God?

God’s faithfulness should produce faithfulness in His people. Believers are challenged to examine whether they have been faithful in God’s Word, in giving, in offerings, in soul winning and in the areas of service entrusted to them.

The story of the three Hebrew men in Daniel 3:16–28 is used as an example of faithfulness under pressure. Even when the furnace was heated seven times hotter, they did not deny God.

The sermon explains that when the heat of life becomes seven times hotter, the enemy may be trying to pressure a person into denying God. Yet believers must remember the God who has been faithful to them and remain faithful to Him.

A powerful lesson is drawn from the fiery furnace: everything that enters the fire with you may not come out with you. God can use the fire to consume sickness, affliction, bondage and anything that should not remain in your life.

The Hebrew men entered the fire as men destined to be roasted, but they came out as men on fire for God. In the same way, believers can come out of storms stronger than their enemies.

The sermon then teaches that believers must not be moved by what they see, but by what they know about God.

The Israelites repeatedly failed in this area during their wilderness journey. They complained when there was no water, complained when the waters were bitter, complained about food and complained at the Red Sea. Yet God repeatedly showed His faithfulness.

Deuteronomy 8:4 reminds us that during the wilderness journey, their garments did not wear out and their feet did not swell. Yet many still failed to recognise God’s faithfulness.

The sermon warns that complaining and ingratitude can blind people to the faithfulness of God. Those who complain are not thankful, and those who are not thankful struggle to see God’s hand.

Job is then presented as an example of someone who refused to charge God foolishly despite severe loss. Though he suffered greatly, he did not abandon his trust in God. This reflects Job 13:15: “Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.”

The preacher also references David, whose life was sought by Saul, yet God did not deliver him into Saul’s hand. This reflects 1 Samuel 23:14, where God preserved David from his enemy.

The sermon declares that believers may not even know how many times the enemy has tried to destroy them, but God disallowed it because He is too faithful to fail.

The message also refers to Daniel in the lions’ den. Daniel was not moved by what he saw, but by what he knew about God. Because he remained faithful, God preserved him.

Joseph is also presented as an example of faithfulness. When tempted by Potiphar’s wife, Joseph refused to sin against God. His faithfulness eventually led him to the palace.

The sermon defines faithfulness as certainty, dependability, reliability, trustworthiness and permanence. God can always be counted on. When He tells His people not to worry, they can rest because He knows the end from the beginning.

The sermon concludes with prophetic declarations of favour, grace, peace, prosperity, usefulness, fruitfulness and a changed story.

The service then moves into Holy Communion. The preacher describes the Communion elements as a spiritual tablet and water: the body and blood of Jesus Christ received by faith.

Prayer is made for healing, deliverance, breakthrough, fulfilment and the removal of every poison, silent killer and ungodly planting. This connects with the promise of Jesus in Matthew 15:13, that every plant which the Father has not planted will be uprooted.

The Communion section closes with prayer that the body and blood of Christ will bring healing, deliverance and wholeness, and that God will perfect everything concerning His people.

This is not based on emotion, but on the character of God.

Twenty Years Is a Testimony of God’s Faithfulness — 04:05

The 20th anniversary of RCCG Overcomers House Gloucester is a testimony that God began the journey and has continued with the church.

The church’s story is not merely about human effort, but about divine preservation and grace.

The Lord Establishes and Guards His People — 10:11

2 Thessalonians 3:3 declares that the Lord is faithful, and that He will establish and guard His people from the evil one.

God’s faithfulness is both strengthening and protective.

Survival Through Storms Is Evidence of God’s Faithfulness — 11:00

The fact that believers have passed through troubles, storms and battles without being consumed is evidence of God’s faithfulness.

God’s Faithfulness Shields Us from the Enemy — 12:00

People may fail and circumstances may change, but God remains faithful.

His faithfulness becomes a shield and defence against attacks, temptations and the plans of the evil one.

Salt may be small, but it makes a great difference.

In the same way, believers are called to remain distinct, useful and spiritually impactful in the world.

Wrong Associations Can Corrupt Good Habits — 14:35

Salt loses usefulness when contaminated.

Likewise, believers must avoid corrupt associations because 1 Corinthians 15:33 warns that evil company corrupts good habits.

1 Corinthians 10:13 teaches that God is faithful in temptation.

He sees His people, hears their prayers, understands their pain and provides a way of escape.

God’s Faithfulness Calls for Our Faithfulness — 17:00

God can use trials to consume sickness, bondage, weakness and affliction, while bringing His people out purified and stronger.

The sermon warns against being controlled by what is visible.

Faith is strengthened when believers focus on who God is and what they know about His faithfulness.

Ingratitude prevents people from recognising the faithfulness of God in their daily lives.

God Is Faithful in Every Circumstance — 25:40

The believer is called to disregard circumstances and dare to believe the God who has been faithful from birth.

Daniel Was Moved by What He Knew About God — 27:00

Daniel was not moved by the lions’ den because he knew the faithfulness of God.

His confidence was rooted not in the visible danger, but in the God he served.
